LIBRARY
The library of the institute, created in 1931,
fulfils an important role in organization of many-sided educational
process. During 70 years the fund of the library was replenished
with new educational and scientific literature. Nowadays it numbers
more than 600 thousand volumes.
The University has 4 libraries. One of these
libraries is a regional medical library, located at the city center
housing more than 500,000 copies of different literature.. It
has a considerable fund of home and foreign periodicals, author's
abstracts and dissertations, a great number of reference and bibliographical
literature. Every year about 19 thousand new books come into the
library, 460 home and foreign journals are subscribed.
The three remaining libraries, which are located
in the University campus, comprise of a short-term book-borrowing
library, a long-term book-borrowing library and a computerized
library; where one can find literature on line. These libraries
contain more than 600,000 copies of different books, from different
parts of the world in different languages etc. The electronic
reading hall is connected with the University data bank and Internet.
The University supplies her students with all the literature necessary
for academic purposes. The Crimea State Medical University library
stock includes more than 600 thousand copies of books, journals
and theses in the Ukrainian, English, Russian, French and German
languages.
The important role in providing students and
staff members with the teaching literature belongs to the University's
library. The scientific library of the University is an auxiliary
for teaching, scientific, informational and culturally enlightening
division.
The library work is purposed for building and
protecting of book stocks and meeting the readers' needs and the
tasks of teaching and research processes with most possible effectiveness.
One of the main tasks of the library is supporting the teaching
process and the independent work of the students, which requires
an effective interaction with the Teaching division, dean's offices
and departments. The stock formation sector and the textbook loan
system keep the card-catalogue reflecting the extent to which
the teaching process is provided with books. Annually this information
is updated for every particular discipline, including utility
of books, their compliance with the programs and requests of the
chairs as for allotment of books. The textbook loan system stock
by 01.01.2000 comprises 1080 titles, the total of copies is 634371.
The library carries on scientifically based
formation of stocks in compliance with the regulations in action
and financial facilities, aiming at reaching the ratio of books
to student's 1:1. Presently the main sources of stock formation

The Central Board on Methodic of the Ukrainian Health Ministry
supplies the teaching literature published in Ukraine, gifted
supplies come from charity societies. The book availability ratio
for the teaching process is 1:1 for the following disciplines:
- Obstetrics and gynecology, normal anatomy, anesthesiology
and reanimatology, bio-organical chemistry, histology, infectious
diseases, skin-vinereological diseases, ray diagnostics and
therapeutics, micro-biology, neuro-surgery, neurotic diseases,
oncology, orthopaedic stomatology, otorhinolaringology, ophthalmology,
path anatomy, path physiology, pediatrics, prophedeutics of
internal diseases, psychiatry, infant stomatology, forensic
medicine, therapeutics, traumatology and orthopedics, urology,
pharmacology, phthisiatrics, surgical stomatology, surgery,
endocrinology
1:2 for the following disciplines:
- English language, biophysics, infant infectious diseases,
history of medicine, Latin language, catastrophe medicine, medical
psychology, general hygiene, social medicine and healthcare
management, therapeutical stomatology
1:3 for the following disciplines:
- Dental mechanics materials, practical studies of eye diseases,
prophedeutics of infant diseases, Physiotherapeutic, philosophy.
The mean quantity of textbooks per one student is 52.5. The mean
quantity of copies of scientific literature per one scientific
worker and post-graduate is 563.
A large achievement of the University is the opening of the electronic
reading hall connected to the Internet, which affords effective
opportunities for perfecting the teaching and research processes.
There are several electronic reading hall connected with the
University data bank and Internet. A centralized information system
is working at the University, uniting 16 computer Internet data
banks.
The Crimea State Medical University Library is open to University
staff and students and registered borrowers. Its reference and
information facilities are also open to the public.
A bibliographical department puts out bulletins of new coming
in of home literature, information lists for social and political
chairs. Every year about 100 books exhibitions are organized,
more than 75 bibliographical surveys, readers' conferences, disputes
and literature evenings are conducted.
