FACULTY OF MEDICINE
The official opening date of the medical faculty
is 10th May 1918. In 1918-1919, 109 students studied at the medical
faculty. It had only four departments, and now there are 60 departments
at the faculty. In the under graduate program, during six years
of study the students learn different subjects from fundamental
subjects disciplines to special medical subjects.
In the medical faculty three specialties are
taught.
- Therapeutics or Medicine. Qualification - Medical doctor
- Pediatrics. Qualification - Pediatrist
- Prophylaxis. Qualification - hygienics doctor
The training duration for all the above specialties are six
years.
The medical faculty is importantly concerned about the practical
training of the students. The students progressing in mastering
skills and habits is assessed in course of practical and laboratory
classes, with control exercised during intermediate and final
classes, at examinations, credit tests. Special concern is given
to the practical training of students at the clinical chairs of
University, where the students, guided by the teachers, examine
the patients, take part in polyclinic receptions, accompany professors,
readers and assistants when they attend the patients. Every student
is to write "Case history" of a patient and defend it at a practical
class.
The state final examinations on all the disciplines according
to the syllabus are held within one system through 2 stages:
- testing practical proficiency of final-year students (when
exams on clinical disciplines are taken, testing takes place
at the patient's bed)
- testing scientific/theoretical proficiency.
Practical skills acquired by the students at classes and through
external independent work are consolidated during field work.
The total of the field work hours for the 6 years of studies at
the medical department is 1296 hours. The field practice of the
students at all the departments and courses is fully furnished
with methodical materials. The students have their field practice
mainly at 33 therapeutic/prophylactic institutions in Simferopol,
as well at clinical bases meant for field practice at 44 medical
institutions of the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea and at 20
therapeutic/prophylactic institutions of the Kherson region. The
field practice bases are established by decrees of the Crimean
Health Ministry and regional Health administration.
The field practice is managed by the most highly qualified teachers
of the clinical departments of the University. After graduation
from the medical faculty, good and excellent students who revealed
a gift for research work continue their majoring in narrower branches
of medicine. Annually 400 freshmen join the medical faculty. In
the process of their study, the students under the teacher's supervision
work independently with patients, master the modern medical equipment
and computers. The medical faculty has always been noted for the
high level of specialists training, active research work and high
skill of medical work of the specialists of most departments performed
in the clinics (inpatient and outpatient).
In the scientific societies, the students can extend their knowledge
on the subjects they are interested in. The medical faculty has
gained a considerable experience in foreign students training.
Since 1975 from 52 countries have been trained here.
The medium of instruction in the Medical faculty is English and
Russian language. The Ministry of education and Ministry of Public
health, Ukraine approved the curriculum
of the medical faculty. Many countries accept the Crimea State
Medical University's diploma.
Admission to the medical faculty takes place after an interview,
test control and conclusion of a contract. Foreigners learn in
group of seven eight students along with local students. The second
year students attend their clinical studies where they can gain
experience in nursing the patients. Clinical subjects are taught
beginning from the third year of study. Students can study any
topic of interest and to raise their of knowledge in the departments.
All six years of the program are important and all must be passed
successfully before students are permitted to graduate.
After passing the state examinations, the graduates receive the
